He simply kept on digging. I could tell he was feeling desperate, miserable and shattered. He needed help, I would have help but at that moment I knew that the only thing he wanted was to be alone. Gill and I went back inside. A few hours later a scream broke the silence. It came from outside, it was dad. We ran out towards the trench and we saw dad jumping in a big load of money.
The day she left he was rummaging through his documents, which were closed in a wardrobe. Mum said she really wanted to stay, but they had to split up, so she gave him the choice and he chose to stay on at the family home. She said it made more sense because he was the one who was going to be spending more time at home,so he was better able to look after us. Gill said he should have stayed away while mum was moving her stuff out, so he went into his own office right after breakfast. He spent the whole day there, tiding up his documents. Mum was popping in and out with boxes. You know what? Mum made me and Gill help. She tried,but then Gill went into town. I did a couple of boxes and then I went into my room. On the way I found dad's office door a bit open so I peeped through to see what was happening inside. I saw him shattered and I came in. "Hi dad!How are you?Shall I help you?" I said him feeling sorry. "yes son" he whispered. I started to pick up all the documents from the ground and at some point I glimpsed a quite strange foto. It showed dad with Nigel's wife at the seaside!!! "Dad...how about this foto?" I asked him. He grumbled something then I continued:"Why are you spending time with Nigel's wife?What does this foto mean?" "What?" he yelled. After a while he calmed down and told me that she was the girl he used to spend time with. This was a shock for me but unfortunatly the bad news weren't over. Dad told me all the story and then,quite relieved,he uttered that she was going to live with us... ...After a week we were living like a normal family, a normal family of a mexican soap opera!

I could catch sight of tears in her eyes and for this reason I decided to cover some meters with her. None of us talked, we only walked along the street. Suddently we gaped something that we should not have seen. We saw Nigel kissing his wife passionately. My mum looked astonished, she could not believe her eyes. In addition behind Nigel and his "great love" stood their children. Mum glared at them and at the same time Nigel glanced at us. My mum loped towards him and he started tottering towards her. His wife asked: "Dear, where are you going?" "I have to solve a problem with a collegue." "What kind of problem?" "Nothing important, darling, but urgent!". As mum and Nigel were face to face she slapped him. He was confused. "You, stupid man!! You said that you loved me!..And your wife was nothing to you! You destroyed my family! It's your fault!" she swore. "Sorry...but it's your fault too...And now I have changed my mind!". Then he ran to his family. My mum started to cry and I hugged her. She told me that she wanted to return home. Without thinking about it, we went back home and we told everything to my father and Gil. Dad was still really angry, but at the same time sad because he still loved my mum. Gil suggested that we lived together again. none of us said a word and we hugged each other happily.
Sandra had decided to leave, so on Sunday, she spent the whole day packing all her things; boxes and boxes were piled up at the back of the car, ready to be put in it. while she was managing to do that, Dad was digging his trench just behind the car and the boxes, so that he could catch sight of Sandra popping in and out with her stuff. He seemed to ignore what was happening, in fact he looked calm and relaxed: he kept on working and didn't say or do anything. We couldn't understand his behaviour: we tried to talk to him but he didn't even answer. At about tea time Mum was ready to leave and came inside to say goodbye. While we were talking we suddenly heard a noise from the garden and we rushed to the window, what we saw left us gaping: Dad had started up the car and was driving backwards in order to push the boxes down inside the trench, where they fell with a clanking noise of broken things. Although he had seemed indifferent the whole day, it wasn't true that he didn't care: he had only been planning his revenge!
Later Gill came home and we went out to the garden to see Dad. We had to look for him for a while, apparently we couldn't find him. Firstly we thought he was running desperately to Nigel's place to beg Sandra to come back home, but suddenly we say him standing there at the front door, wearing a really smart black suit. He was about to call Gill and me out. He appeared really excited, it was quite an unreal scene after everything that happened during the day. When he saw us he yelled out "Guys, lets go to Hollywood! I've already booked the tickets". We stared at him with a pasoled (?) face: how could it be possible? Just a few hours before he was looking miserable and desperate, and now the situation seemed to come from Mars. He was on the moon, it was weird but it was real: he didn't mind that Sandra left him. At one point Gill walked sheepishly towards him and she gazed at him trying to recognize our Dad in that strange well-dressed bloke. He looked at us with a winkling expression "Come on, kids. I'll explain anything to you later" - he said. He led us to a hidden place, where we found a long shining limousine. As we jumped in it, he gave instructions to the chauffeur and began revealing his secret, He was the biggest producer of Hollywood film: he hadn't said anything before that moment and he created himself an other safer life because Sandra didn't want to live in a world of lies and fame. But now that she was gone they could have lived openly. Hearing this we connected all the dots looking backwards, everything was clear and so we started living a new exciting life among popularity and wealth.
Sandra realizes that she is really in love with Nigel and decides to live her past behind her and join him , even if she lives a bit far away from there. In that way she won’t see her husband every morning when she goes to work. Gill shuffles her feet and glaring her mother yells: ” What the hell are you doing ?? What do you have in your mind?? Did you realize that you bowled up our family?” Mum starts mumbling and gives her no answer, because in the end she knew that she was right. Gill, now 18, leaves the house and lives with her friend. Dad is angry and hopeless and to forget his wife Sandra, he buries her things that she left in the trench in the garden. Meanwhile Lawrence has terrible nightmares like for example once he dreamed his body eating by crows and her mother, drunk, dancing on flowers and singing the beauty of her life. He is also sleepwalker and once night he went to his mum’ house crying and imploring her to come home. As a consequence of that dad understands that Lawrence is totally out of his mind. He also has hallucinations and dad realizes that it is better to bring him to rehab. Dad leaves his job in order to look after him. One day dad sees an announcement in the newspaper for a lawyer’ s assumption and decides to call this number. As the phone started to ring Nigel lopes to it and answers. At the end of the story dad and Nigel start working together and become good friends. Every month Sandra and Nigel invite dad to have dinner all together. Giulia and Franco
Gill came home. Dad was sitting on the sofa staring at the white wall with a scary expression on his face, he looked like a psychopathic man. That evening, the first without mum, Gill cooked, although she had always been bad at it, in fact it was a disgusting dinner, I really missed dad’s fish-pie. But dad instead of joining us at the table, which previously had been the stage of our family tragedy, was still hooked to the sofa with the same terrifying look, without lifting a finger. Later we dragged ourselves to bed, that night Gill and I could not fall asleep, we were rather anxious about dad’s behaviour. When we woke up the next morning we ran downstairs, we noticed that dad was not there and he hadn’t even spend the night at home. Walking to the kitchen to have breakfast, we saw some blood stains near the sofa and a brush next to it. Worried we rang mum but she didn’t answer; then we went out in the garden to see if dad was there, he wasn’t. Once out we noticed immediately that the trench dad had dag the previous day was filled. We went closer, something was protruding from the soil…it was a hand! We were so scared, Gill fainted. But I wanted to go deeper to discover what happened. I continued digging till I discovered the most terrible thing I’d ever seen: the dead bodies of my parents. They were holding each other’s hand and mum had a blood-written sentence on her t-shirt: “ME OR NOBODY ELSE”. Chiara and Giulia B.
